Smoke in the Pit, Inc was founded in 1998 in Minneapolis, Minnesota as a Smoked Rib Restaurant. The business is known for its tender smoked ribs and wings. The business operated successfully from September 1998 to August 2000, at 500 Lake Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota, however, were forced to dissolve after not being able to negotiate a final offer with the owners of the commercial property.

Since, then the owners has worked to keep the product name known within the community by providing meals at Church community events, catering events, and working nonprofit events. The owners, Dwight and Ivy Alexander, childhood friends, has been married for 26 years. They are the parents of five children, and grandparents to seven grandchildren. They both bring a wealth of experience and knowledge in customer service, management, and finances.

Both owners have a passionate for the experience they bring to the business. Dwight is the subject matter expert preparing and smoking a variety of meats, cooking and baking many of the side dishes. Ivy has a gifting for serving others with many years of experience in customer service and management skills. While Dwight supported his family by working in the Bakery Industry as a skilled bakery, Ivy chose a part-time military year for 24 years, currently serving as a Master Sergeant (MSG), holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and currently works in the Corporate Mortgage Industry.

Smoke in the Pit, Inc, has captured the hearts of many with their overwhelmed tender and seasoned taste of variety of meat products; ribs, chicken, turkey legs, and beef brisket, complimented with southern side dishes; potato salad, Cole slaw, baked macaroni and cheese, prepared from family recipes. Although they are new on the block at their current location at 3733 Chicago Avenue South, they certainly have been around the block with the experience both owners share in their areas of expertise.

The owners hope to create from the surrounding community of men, women and youth. To establish a catering business that will cater events for Church Events, Weddings, nonprofit organizations and Business accounts. To market additional products, such as special BBQ sauces and special spice Rub by Smoke in the Pit Inc, and finally to be able to make yearly donations to organizations that support chronic illnesses.
